BREAK THE CYCLE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Since 1980, My Sister’s House (MSH) has been helping women survive domestic violence by offering safe housing, court advocacy, education, counseling and support groups to women in crisis. Due to the sensitive nature of their work, volunteers must be at least 18 years old, complete a background screening, interview and specialized training. The investment is well worth your while; not only will you develop valuable skills, but you’ll make a life-changing impact on the lives of local women in need. “I sincerely love our shared commitment to the mission,” said Tosha Connors, CEO of My Sister’s House. “Every day, I’m inspired by my colleagues as we each contribute in different ways to the life-changing services MSH provides. I’m heartened by the true spirit of service in every staff member, board member and volunteer who works tirelessly to break cycles of domestic violence, uplifting and empowering our beautiful Lowcountry community. Our work isn’t easy, but it is always worth it.” Here are a few ways you can make a difference at My Sister’s House: Housing Volunteer Assist MSH Housing Coordinator to identify housing opportunities in the Tri County area, with activities related to permanent supportive housing for MSH clients and assist clients with housing applications. Telephone Counselor Staff the agency’s 24-hour crisis line. Volunteers use active listening techniques to counsel callers, interview potential clients, and give appropriate referrals.
