Charleston Women Summer 2024

40 | | SHANIEQUA WASHINGTON: CEO of Zuriel Kingdom Collections, LLC, fashion designer and influencer Shaniequa Washington has shaped her career around the power of textile art in inspiring conversations of culture and community. Taking an extra bedroom and turning it into a work studio, Washington, a self-taught seamstress, left her 24-year career in Walmart’s senior leadership to forge her own path. “The benefits of working from home are rewarding,” said Washington. “I have flexibility to care for my 13-yearold daughter and support my adult daughter in caring for her children. I can have harmony in what needs to happen in my home and at work.” Washington specializes in making African Ankara custom pieces like vibrant headwraps, dusters, colorful kimonos and dresses. Her clothes inspire confidence and self-love, dressing women as the queens they truly are. “The favorite thing I love about what I do is the fact that it’s filling a need in my community,” she said. “The items I make are not sold in Belk, Target, Walmart, Dillard’s or any of your everyday household namebrand stores.” Washington attributes her success as an entrepreneur to faith and a strong vision, not only as a business leader, but as a person of influence creating historical impact. Washington encourages other aspiring entrepreneurs to never be ashamed to start where you are. “Society says we need a huge brick-and-mortar, and all of the bells and whistles to start,” she reflected. “Start where you are and stay consistent to build muscle and be grateful that you have this place to start, which is another woman’s wildest dream. Don’t despise those small beginnings.” Charleston Women at Home Shaniequa Washington talk biz from home Home Organization | Move-In Subscription Services Home Simplified @christina.homesimplified Book Now!
