The only profession I have ever had is as a hairstylist and I have been doing it for 33 years. I am currently working at Mary Ellen’s hair salon in Mount Pleasant. Where did you move from? I was raised in Long Island, New York and moved to Johns Island in 2017 from upstate New York. Why did you decide to move to Charleston? My husband Jay had a bachelor pad near Folly Beach and we have been vacationing to South Carolina for over 20 years. We knew we wanted to move out of New York once our two children both went on to college. We thought we would be moving to James Island, since that is what we were familiar with, but wound up on Johns Island because we loved how natural it still looked. NATALIE GRESH Where do you live? We lived in the Mount Pleasant/Charleston area for 20 years. We have lived in Huger for the last eight. What is your occupation? I am the co-founder, academic director and 2nd-4th grade language arts instructor at Holy City Christian Academy in Mount Pleasant. I have always wanted to create a school that is centered on the word of God while fostering a love for learning. What is your favorite weekend activity? My husband is the pastor at Lighthouse Church in Mount Pleasant, so a large part of our weekend is spending time with and serving our amazing church family. We are also a huge water and outdoor family. However, one of my favorites is having a takeout picnic and then walking down streets or neighborhoods I have never visited. I think we have almost finished a complete walking tour of Old Village and are now moving onto Sullivan’s Island. MARTI SEBESTYEN Where do you live? We live off of Clements Ferry Road. What is your business? My husband and I own Julius Alterations and Cleaners. As a small family business, I do everything from customer service, to books, to scheduling and fitting for wedding gowns and men and women’s clothing. Why did you decide to raise your family in Charleston? My husband was living here and found our church. Our kids do not want to move out of our house because of our amazing neighborhood and wonderful school. We have fallen in love with our lives here. What is your favorite thing to do with your family in the summertime? Traveling is one of our favorite things. Driving several times a year to Phoenix, Canada and Key West are some of the highlights of our adventures. We Are Charleston Women
