Accounting was not my first choice; initially I went to school for computer science. Yet, when my major required two semesters of accounting classes, I excelled due — in part at least — to both my parents being CPAs. From there, I took more and continued to do well. The rest is history. What’s an outside skill, quality or experience you’ve brought to your industry? How has it impacted your career? Post-graduation, I worked for seven years in the private sector. The company was a national privatelyowned company. The complex corporate structure taught me a tremendous amount more about intricate inner workings of accounting. I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention my siblings; our family was large and never lacked in energy or laughter. Give us some success tips for someone just starting out in your line of work. Learn as much as you can. Be a student of your profession and never assume you know everything. Find out what you’re interested in, and pursue it to its fullest extent. From there, share your passion with others. Once you know something, it’s yours to forward on.
