Soon the mother-daughter duo was photographed in New York City wearing the sneakers, and then a photo of Beyonce carrying a Taxidermy clutch went viral, appearing on the front page of a New Yorkbased newspaper. If this were a fairy tale, it would be the moment when Driggers’ life magically transformed, with Queen Bey herself as the fairy godmother. But real life isn’t a fairy tale, and even a viral Beyonce photo didn’t translate into immediate sales. No one had tagged Taxidermy in any of the posts. “I stayed up every night emailing the authors of these articles to ask them to link my store instead of Converse,” she recalled. “It was grueling.” Her efforts and persistence ultimately paid off. Today, Driggers’ client list includes celebs like Kylie Jenner and Snoop Dogg. She and her husband moved south to Charleston to open Taxidermy’s first retail store. They live in the Holy City with their two French bulldogs, Lunchbox and Trashcan, and a giant French mastiff named Biff. Getting picked up by Dillard’s last summer was game-changing for the one-woman-show that is Taxidermy, but as the business continues to grow and change, Driggers’ mission remains clear. “My goal is to continue to grow organically,” she said. “I’ve done this all myself so far. I get to do what I love on my terms, offering people unique handbags they can design themselves.” Maybe life isn’t a fairy tale, but Driggers is paving the way for a very happy ending.
