Charleston Women Spring 2021
www. Char l es tonWomen . com | www. ReadCW. com | www. Char l es tonBr i des . com CW - 7 I t’s a tricky thing, crafting an editor’s note to readers. It should be personal while simultaneously giving you a glimpse into the magazine you are about to read. We never envisioned ourselves working on a women’s magazine, yet here we are, and we are all so proud to be a part of this publication. We are committed to bringing you meaningful content. We enjoy finding stories that we think will resonate with you and strive to impact each reader in a way that is meaningful, whether you are a student, long-established in your career and thinking about retirement or somewhere in the middle. What you may not yet realize, and would have to look closely to see, is that all the features in this issue and their accompanying photos are attributed to women, and we arranged this by design. To honor our model of empowering young women, we offered a local photographer, MK McConaghy, her first cover shoot opportunity, rather than enlisting the services of one who is well-established. Included in these pages you will read about entrepreneurial women — one who even opened a restaurant at the start of the pandemic and today has a thriving business. We are also proud to bring you some behind-the-scenes information from several ladies involved in the soon-to-open International African American Museum. To recap all of the articles and the wide array of topics in this issue would take more room than we have, so we’ll stop here, ask you to thumb through these pages and know the content was carefully curated for you. Just don’t forget to browse our About the Cover page and learn about the accomplished ladies who participated in our “Every Woman” cover shoot at Ashley Hall. It’s an inspiring campus, from its jaw-dropping architectural elements and more than 100 years of history to its mission “to produce educated women who are independent, ethically responsible and prepared to meet the challenges of society with confidence.” Ashley Hall was the perfect choice for the diverse group on this issue’s cover. We hope this publication proves useful to you, and, as always, we invite you to contact us with suggestions for topics you may like to see featured or profiles of local women you believe should be shared. Thank you for joining us for this journey. From the Team Spring 2021 MANAGING EDITORS LINDSAY C. BISHOP JEANNE TAYLOR THERESA STRATFORD COPY EDITOR DENISE K.
