Your musician might have some good ideas and creative ways to use the music you want. The words spoken in the ceremony give structure to the picture you are painting. Your officiant will have some suggestions, but what is said should be about you. Share your story with your officiant. Tell your officiant about how you met, your engagement story and the love you share. Including your story will make your ceremony personal and special. Be creative with your vows and the exchange of rings. Instead of using the “repeat after me” vows, write your own. What promises do you want to make? How do you plan to show your love to that person for the rest of your life? Share your thoughts on how your partner makes you a better person. You can write your vows together, or you can surprise each other on your wedding day. Instead of incorporating the minister’s generic speech about the symbolic nature of the ring exchange, make this integral part of the ceremony your own by asking yourselves questions like, “What makes your rings special?” and When you see the rings on each other’s hands, what does that mean to you?
