Impressive women forging their own paths. “Women in Business” and “Women in Real Estate” we like to call these leading ladies. From the front runners in real estate and home staging to owners of children’s boutiques and consignment stores to the owners/founders of some of our favorite local restaurants and dives, these women are truly the building blocks of East Cooper. At the photoshoots taken at Daniel Island Grille and Saltwater Cowboys, with the talented Jenn Cady doing all photos, we had the opportunity to get to know one another a bit better. Some things I learned from the stories of the women in this issue: Not just hard work, but smart work. Perseverance. And not letting being a woman get in the way of being the leader you were meant to be. Whether you personally “start” your own business or find yourself in the forefront of an already established business, the fact is that keeping the momentum up and juggling all the elements is indeed a challenge. And it’s not for everyone. The pressure is high for anyone, and there are most certainly upsides and downsides of being a woman in a leadership role. And, as women, knowing our perceived “strengths” and “weaknesses” in society is half the battle. The next half is overcoming/defeating them. Being the best version of ourselves and putting the best foot forward — giving no reason for others to doubt us. That’s just what these East Cooper ladies have done. One read through their profiles and you won’t doubt their capabilities, their potential and their inevitable continued paths to success.
