Charleston Women Winter 2024

Jennifer Barrett noticed when she moved to South Carolina from New York five years ago. She had trouble finding edgier styles apart from the famed King St. In retail since she was 16, she decided to do something about it. After running an online boutique, Barrett decided to open Collaboration in historic Summerville to provide more options to her community, a thriving, smaller downtown area 20 miles from the King St. fashion hub. Collaboration offers basics and everyday wear for women of all shapes and sizes. Inclusivity and style range are incorporated throughout the store, and customers ages 13 to 70-plus can find something they love. Barrett carries a variety of junior and adult staples. However, this boutique is one of the only local stores to carry Six Fifty Clothing — soft, breathable material that doesn’t wrinkle. Barrett also aimed to include a bit of herself in the store, so you will also find her vintage-style rock tees and quality basics throughout. However, the biggest piece of Barrett in the store is her heart for people. She said, “Retail therapy is a form of therapy, and it is supposed to make you feel good. I love styling people, and I wanted a place where everyone can come into one store and shop together.” That’s exactly what she did.
