I am a client success manager at Follow Up Boss, a real estate CRM. What are your favorite ways to give back? I have been on my children’s PTA for the last seven years. I’ve worked my way up from monitoring lunch to president. I am now in my fourth year of Junior Service League. We work with nonprofit organizations in Summerville. I volunteer any chance I get. Volunteering isn’t always about monetary donations but about giving time. What is unique about women in our area? I had no idea the number of nonprofits our community had. I get to share in these experiences with incredible woman who help me make wonderful memories.. DORIE WEXLER, James Island How did you land in Charleston? My husband and I vacationed here. We loved It! In 2018, my husband was offered a position as a clinical neuropsychologist. We were so excited, and it was perfect for my line of work. I’m a dance fitness choreographer. What are your goals? Following my 80-pound weight loss, I’ve been on a journey toward freedom. Overcoming trauma, addiction and maintaining emotional sobriety are at the center of who I am. As I find freedom, I also find long-lost dreams. I would love to author a cookbook. How do you see women supporting women? As I navigated through our community, I quickly realized that women were all about lifting each other up. I was over the moon that there were female-focused groups. I’ve been approached with an empowering word from a stranger offering compliments many times. It’s special. EMILY ADAMS, Johns Island Tell us what you do. I am the owner of Emily Adams State Farm Agency and the landlord of an office complex (fun fact: all women-owned businesses). How is balancing work and family? Hectic! As the mother of toddler twins and a one-year-old, it is a constant struggle to find a healthy balance. I’m thankful for my husband, who is supportive and helpful. I opened my own business so that I could have the freedom to prioritize my family. Our family likes to stay busy outdoors, enjoying Charleston! What are words you live by? “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, dream, discover.” —Mark Twain
