Established two years ago by Charleston’s first Black female sommelier, the company aims to make wine accessible to all, providing not only exquisite Napa Valley wines but also knowledge, etiquette and a deeper appreciation for the craft. The goal is to educate people from all walks of life, ensuring that wine education is available to anyone eager to learn. With over 20 years in the retail and wine industry, the founder, Latasha Tavelle, a mother of four with children ranging from ages 7 to 28, made the bold decision to turn her passion into a career. Originally from Savannah, Georgia, she earned the education needed to become a sommelier and started FermentedVines to offer an elevated wine experience for any occasion — whether a wedding, a private event or a casual evening at home. In addition to curated wine and food pairings, FermentedVines offers wine etiquette classes and wine tasting nights, ensuring that every guest feels comfortable and confident in their wine knowledge. Looking ahead, the founder hopes to open a wine bar in Charleston, offering the same warm, home-like experience to the community. For more information, follow @fermentedvines on Instagram.
