We moved to Charleston due to my husband’s career as a McDonald’s owner-operator. He had the opportunity to purchase two stores in the area, which brought us here to start a new chapter. The vibrant community and beautiful surroundings of Charleston also played a big role. What business are you working on? I am working on launching a honey and spice flavored premium vodka that aims to redefine the spirits industry. Drawing inspiration from my mother’s traditional East African honey wine recipe, this venture allows me to combine my passion for business with a desire to share my culture and personal story. Why do you want to be an entrepreneur? I decided to become an entrepreneur because I have always been drawn to building something from the ground up. The freedom to innovate, take risks and see ideas come to life drives me. ALICIA LOPEZ FLOYD Where are you located? I call downtown historic Summerville, surrounded by beautiful oak trees and white picket fences, my home. What is your profession? I am the campus manager of one of the largest commercial training solutions in the country. I ensure the integrated delivery of training to pilots, maintenance technicians and cabin crew. How do you give back? I believe growth happens through giving. I have served on multiple boards and actively volunteer in schools, at-risk communities and STE@M outreach programs. How do you spend free time? I love painting affirmations on rocks and hiding them in parks to spread joy. I also love going to Edisto Island with my husband and sons. It is our happy place. LIZZIE MEARS Where in the greater CHS area do you live? I live in beautiful Summerville. I love that it’s family-friendly and that there is always something fun to do. We hear you’re an actress. Where can we see you? You can see me in some fun TV roles. I was in season one of “Doom Patrol” as Mary Beth, season two of “The Righteous Gemstones” as Tessa and season three of “Young Rock” as Kirsten. In May, I will perform with the Flowertown Players in “9 to 5” in the role of Doralee, which is the role inspired by Dolly Parton. How do you enjoy serving your community? I’m a member of Junior Service League of Summerville, which allows me to volunteer my time for many nonprofit organizations. What are your favorite ways to spend free time? I enjoy getting lunch at The Co-Op, taking my son to the aquarium and attending live theater performances. My favorite spot to see live theater is the Flowertown Players and my favorite improv spot is Theatre 99. We Are Charleston Women
