Being a mom of three children while running a State Farm office is a balancing act that requires acceptance of “mom guilt” versus “business guilt.” Embracing this reality helps in understanding my limitations and the importance of delegation. Partnering with my husband and team is crucial for sharing responsibilities. You’re an avid traveler. Where should we visit? Two of my favorite vacations for a mental health break are Fiji and the Maldives. To make travel more affordable, I recommend getting a rewards credit card to build points for your bucket list trips. Currently, I’m planning a trip to Thailand and Vietnam that balances being active with beach time. What is one thing better in Charleston than anywhere else? The food is incredible. There are so many great spots with renowned chefs serving fresh, local ingredients. Having traveled to many countries, I can confidently say the food here is tough to beat. DIANA ASHLEY Where are you located? Our small farmstead is in Cottageville. What is your job? I have been a family nurse practitioner for the last 11 years along with being a part-time SAHM. Being able to educate and inspire my patients to want to become healthy is what I love most about my job. I feel privileged to help people manage their health with confidence and compassion. I also make Elderberry, which has been cultivated and used for thousands of years. I wanted my family to understand and practice the various natural things one can do to help prevent illness. My Elderberry Syrup recipe is effective and delicious. What do you love about the Lowcountry? The Lowcountry is the epitome of the friendliest people, a deep connection with nature and a strong commitment to family values. LAUREN VAN DAMME Where are you located? My husband and I live in Summerville. Tell us about being a pilot. I knew as a child that I wanted to fly. In college, fate led me to a Medevac company and I discovered I could have a job where I flew and helped people. I convinced the company to hire me as an intern, which led to a 17-year career. I decided it was time to make a change, so I applied at Southwest Airlines. I’ve been a first officer for two-and-a-half years. As a first officer, I fly Boeing737s alongside a captain. While the captain is higher in rank and responsibility, both members fly the plane equally. You’re in the Junior Service League. How is that? Being a member of both the Junior Service League of Summerville and the Junior League of Charleston has been a great way to meet some remarkable like-minded women, make friendships and learn more about the community. Charleston has many nonprofit organizations doing phenomenal things. Being active in both leagues allows me to learn about these organizations and how I can get involved. We Are Charleston Women
