Books are forms of entertainment, a medium we often look to for a break from the blues, or if not, for a glimmer of hope. Still early in 2025, many readers are also just people looking to better themselves in one way or another. We’ve chosen two reads to help you do just that. Fiction: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig The Midnight Library is not a new release; it’s been around a couple of years (and with rightfully earned glowing reviews). However, it’s an important read that is excellent for those feeling a bit down, or even just looking for a little bit of meaning in life. The main character (trigger warning) aims to end her life, but instead gets caught in an “in-between,” a library with endless possibilities of where her life could take her. This book opens up worlds of opportunity and hope while taking readers on an excellent literary caper. This is for the fiction lover who is also looking for a dash of inspiration from a modern classic in the making. Non-fiction: Choosing the Simply Luxurious Life by Shannon Ables This book has it all: ideas on cultivating a healthy mind and body, ways to find financial independence, thoughts on building relationships and tactics on homing in on innate gifts to find fulfillment. The best part is that it’s all based on finding healthy and positive ways to garner success in all these different walks of life. It defies stereotypes and social norms and gently guides women on how to look within instead of finding a stencil of some other woman to sit inside and try to become. This book is about finding the self and becoming the CEO of your own life. It’s someone holding your hand while you take an introspective journey.
