Why do you love being a stay at home mom? I worked full-time outside of the home until two years ago, so being a stay-at-home mom is new for me. My daughter is 15, and it’s so important to me to be home and available to her. Most people think as their children get older they don’t need mom’s involvement as much, but I have found the more I am available to listen, talk, support and encourage, the more connected and involved I am in her life. How did you celebrate the holiday season? There are so many wonderful Christmas celebrations in Charleston that we love to attend every year, but our favorite as a family is the Christmas Eve service at our church. The service always centers us back to the reason we celebrate CHRISTmas. What is a hobby you enjoy? My hobbies focus around my home. I love working in my garden, decorating, repurposing furniture and entertaining. LAUREN GOULETTE Where do you live? I live in Mount Pleasant. What is a hobby you enjoy? I love playing tennis and volunteering at church or my kids’ school. How do you make the holiday season special for your children? We always have a fun family advent that I personalize each year. The kids get to read the hidden tag, which contains either an activity for the family, a small treat or acts of service. Even as my kids get older, it’s the first thing they head to when they wake up. We also have some yearly traditions we make sure to do. We always love to find a live nativity and love the candlelight service at Seacoast Church on Christmas Eve. What is your favorite part about Christmas in Charleston? We love to go downtown during the Christmas season and see a show and have dinner. We love always experiencing something new our city has to offer. KIMMIE VANHOOK Where do you live? I live in Mount Pleasant. What is a hobby you enjoy? The hobby I enjoy most is sewing. Since I have three girls who grew up dancing, I taught myself how to sew dance leotards and costumes. What is your favorite Christmas tradition? Our favorite Christmas tradition is getting our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and putting all our decorations up together as a family. What is your favorite memory of the holiday season growing up? Ever since my girls were little, we have always decorated gingerbread houses and made cookies with our Honey. She always made sure to get the cousins together every year. She had special aprons made for all of them, and it always put us in the holiday spirit. It is such a special memory for all of us since she is now in Heaven. We Are Charleston Women
