Ins t ag ram. com /Char l e s tonWomen When contemplating how to incorporate art al fresco, dining in your own yard is a great place to start. It will give you a reason to venture outside and create a beautiful space. “Cooking and eating food outdoors makes it taste infinitely better than the same meal prepared and consumed indoors.” The only way to improve upon what was said by the naturalist author Fennel Hudson would be to include these words, “particularly as you gaze upon “French Fruit,” a piece of art by Lowcountry artist Kim English.” Such art could hang on the door of a garden shed in a green space with diners gathered — or propped on the screening of a summer porch. Close your eyes and let the scene unfold in the most magical way: food, art and the melodies of choice — maybe classical, maybe something beachy and sublime. Al fresco dining not only invites us to feel the sun’s warmth on our faces or a gentle breeze skip along our bare arms, but it also invites us to include a hypnotic tune, a beautiful painting or a carefully placed garden water feature gurgling nearby. Blossoming magnolias, peonies and hydrangeas, along with black-eyed Susans and fragrant lavender hint at what should enhance their presences. They are art too, and they know it when they beckon us over to dine at their sides, inviting us to be co-conductors of the symphony. Perhaps your landscape is nestled near the water.
