Every weekend throughout Women Build, Burgess worked at the homesite, putting in her sweat equity hours and meeting the other women who came to help her build her home. “I can’t believe there are people who want to help me,” she said. “I love meeting with everyone who is part of the process of helping families who deserve it and understand the cost of living. This house holds endless opportunity, growth and stability in all areas of our life. I want my kids to know their mom worked hard to build them a home.” THE RESULTS Today, Burgess and her children get to come home to a four-bedroom home in a safe and secure neighborhood. The children can play outside, and Burgess can sleep well at night knowing there won’t be bullets flying into her children’s bedrooms.
