Charleston Women Fall 2025

Every color choice, font selection and photograph placement speaks before a single word is read. As the new designer for Charleston Women, I’m honored to help shape how these incredible stories are told visually. My design philosophy is bold and modern with a minimalist edge. For Charleston Women, that translates into clean layouts, strong photography and typography that enhances each story’s voice. Just like the women we feature, no two stories are exactly alike — and the design should celebrate that uniqueness while creating a cohesive experience. I owe much to my mentor, former Art Director Dana Coleman, who shaped my creative approach over eight years. Working behind the scenes taught me that great design creates space for stories to breathe and shine. You can expect more professional photography, cohesive design elements and a strong visual foundation built on simplicity and impact. The women of Charleston deserve design that matches their sophistication, creativity and strength. Bethany Long, Art Director EDITOR’S NOTE A FRESH VISION FOR CHARLESTON WOMEN When Stacey McLoughlin and Colleen Kassner approached me about becoming managing editor of Charleston Women, I knew this was a transformative opportunity. As a Charleston native with over 30 years of experience in community building — from founding the Charleston Wine + Food Festival to creating Like Minded CHS and The Brighter Side Society — I’ve dedicated my career to elevating women and connecting our community. Charleston Women began as an insert in Mount Pleasant Magazine when Stacey’s team recognized our city’s remarkable women needed a dedicated platform. What started as a simple idea has evolved into essential reading, showcasing the entrepreneurs, artists, philanthropists and visionaries who make Charleston extraordinary. My vision extends beyond maintaining the status quo. I want Charleston Women to reflect the sophistication and dynamism of our readers through refined design, compelling visuals and content that truly resonates. That’s why I’m thrilled to partner with Bethany Long, whose design expertise and deep understanding of our audience made her the perfect collaborator for this transformation. This redesign represents more than aesthetic changes — we’re reimagining how Charleston Women serves its community. Every element, from typography to photography, has been carefully considered to honor the stories we tell. You’ll discover exciting new features that reflect how Charleston women actually live and work: The Book Nook, showcasing literary recommendations; seasonal recipes that bring people together; Where To…, our curated guide to the city’s best opportunities; and My Favorite Room, where community members invite us into their personal spaces. Most importantly, the entire Charleston Women team is committed to making this publication truly about you — your ambitions, challenges, triumphs and dreams. We want to hear from you. Share your ideas, story suggestions and feedback to ensure Charleston Women remains where women come to grow, connect and thrive. This is just the beginning of building something that honors the past while boldly stepping into the future.
