To include your podcast in this directory, please e-mail Podcast@CarolinaPodcasts.com PUBLISHER'S NOTE This is an exciting time for Charleston Women. With the arrival of our new managing editor, Angel Holmes, and our very talented graphic artist, Bethany Long, stepping into the role of art director, we are thrilled to unveil this issue and hear what you think. I always get a rush as a new issue launches, but I am exceptionally eager for this one. Fall is my favorite season, and even though we don't feel the weather change in Charleston the way I did growing up in New York, it's the little adjustments we make to our wardrobe that I love — richer colors and textures and jeans, boots and blazers for cooler evenings. The upcoming season is portrayed in our cover shot, showcasing beautiful early fall looks from some of our favorite local boutiques. As we grow and strengthen our Charleston Women community, we always put you — our reader, follower and listener — at the forefront of our planning. In the upcoming months, look for our new Charleston Women monthly newsletter, the beginning of a new era for the Charleston Women Podcast with host Kim Russo, and the 2026 She Shines awards, which will be featured in next summer's issue. We continue to share stories, empowering women and local events on our social media pages, so please follow us @CharlestonWomen on Facebook and Instagram. 7 WWW.CHARLESTONWOMENPODCAST.COM | WWW.READCW.COM | WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM/CHARLESTONWOMEN A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON VISUAL STORYTELLING Design is storytelling. Every color choice, font selection and photograph placement speaks before a single word is read. As the new designer for Charleston Women, I’m honored to help shape how these incredible stories are told visually. My design philosophy is bold and modern with a minimalist edge. For Charleston Women, that translates into clean layouts, strong photography and typography that enhances each story’s voice. Just like the women we feature, no two stories are exactly alike — and the design should celebrate that uniqueness while creating a cohesive experience. I owe much to my mentor, former Art Director Dana Coleman, who shaped my creative approach over eight years. Working behind the scenes taught me that great design creates space for stories to breathe and shine. You can expect more professional photography, cohesive design elements and a strong visual foundation built on simplicity and impact. The women of Charleston deserve design that matches their sophistication, creativity and strength. Bethany Long, Art Director EDITOR’S NOTE A FRESH VISION FOR CHARLESTON WOMEN When Stacey McLoughlin and Colleen Kassner approached me about becoming managing editor of Charleston Women, I knew this was a transformative opportunity. As a Charleston native with over 30 years of experience in community building — from founding the Charleston Wine + Food Festival to creating Like Minded CHS and The Brighter Side Society — I’ve dedicated my career to elevating women and connecting our community. Charleston Women began as an insert in Mount Pleasant Magazine when Stacey’s team recognized our city’s remarkable women needed a dedicated platform. What started as a simple idea has evolved into essential reading, showcasing the entrepreneurs, artists, philanthropists and visionaries who make Charleston extraordinary. My vision extends beyond maintaining the status quo. I want Charleston Women to reflect the sophistication and dynamism of our readers through refined design, compelling visuals and content that truly resonates. That’s why I’m thrilled to partner with Bethany Long, whose design expertise and deep understanding of our audience made her the perfect collaborator for this transformation. This redesign represents more than aesthetic changes — we’re reimagining how Charleston Women serves its community. Every element, from typography to photography, has been carefully considered to honor the stories we tell. You’ll discover exciting new features that reflect how Charleston women actually live and work: The Book Nook, showcasing literary recommendations; seasonal recipes that bring people together; Where To…, our curated guide to the city’s best opportunities; and My Favorite Room, where community members invite us into their personal spaces. Most importantly, the entire Charleston Women team is committed to making this publication truly about you — your ambitions, challenges, triumphs and dreams. We want to hear from you. Share your ideas, story suggestions and feedback to ensure Charleston Women remains where women come to grow, connect and thrive. This is just the beginning of building something that honors the past while boldly stepping into the future. Known for his cinematic style and behind-thescenes aesthetic, Lindbergh's influence is reflected in the visible lighting gear, rustic props and raw emotion captured on camera. 18 WWW.CHARLESTONWOMENPODCAST.COM | WWW.READCW.COM | WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM/CHARLESTONWOMEN CHARLESTON MUSEUM: Where Past Meets Present Local designers reimagine historic fashion for the modern woman BY L.C. LEACH III Want a modern-day glimpse into the world of historic fashion? Look no further than the dresses, gowns, jewelry and bags featured in Charleston Museum's current exhibit, Reimagined Fashion. Running through Jan. 18, 2026, and featuring the work and creations of 18 local designers, Reimagined Fashion not only displays fabrics and styles popular long ago but shows the heavy influence they bring to a contemporary approach. "We are always eager to show how the past is so deeply interlocked with our present and our future," said Virginia Theerman, the museum's curator of textiles. "For the past 18 months, local designers were invited to take inspiration from our collections and create something new." FASHION FORWARD, INSPIRED BY YESTERDAY If you think paper dresses had their day at the height of Beatlemania, Venezuelan Daniel Velasco's simple blackand-white interpretation of a 1960s style might have you thinking they're on the verge of a comeback. Or if you like the color red, it will be hard to resist Sirena Smith's floral resin jewelry and circle purse, paired with a red-orange silk velvet evening dress and golden-toed shoes from the museum's collection in her display "A Night Out," inspired by the look of the 1920s and created to suit a modern woman out on the town. "The '20s still appeal to us now because it was a transitional moment for women in many areas, including gender roles and fashion," Theerman said. "While recovering from World War I and the Spanish flu pandemic, people reexamined their priorities and what they really wanted from their lives." Looking for something light and subtle in a silk gown? A Night Out in the 1920s and 2020s The 18 local designers. 19 WWW.CHARLESTONWOMENPODCAST.COM | WWW.READCW.COM | WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM/CHARLESTONWOMEN Morgan MacAnanny's interpretation of Anna Heyward Taylor will catch your eye. And if you're guessing that duffel-style courier bags for men have only been in vogue a few generations or so, Nicholas Overstreet's turnof-the-20th-century style Porter's Portmanteau will give you the impression it could have been made in 2025 — which it was. INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE "My intention was to gather inspiration from the clothing and uniforms that may have been used by the working class in the late 19th and early 20th centuries," said Overstreet, a clothing accessories designer and founder of Boisterous Co. in Charleston. You can even interact with the display by lifting the mail slot in the side and mailing yourself a postcard from the exhibition. But let's say you finish going through the exhibition and still can't make up your mind about any of it — because you want an item from each of them for a completely new and blended style. A RICH HISTORY OF INNOVATION "Every day I learn something new about our rich collections," Theerman said. Since its founding in 1773 as the first of its kind in the United States, Charleston Museum has evolved from being a "window on the world" to now focusing on the history of the South Carolina Lowcountry with departments including archaeology, archives, natural history and historic textiles. "There are more than 300 years of material culture represented in our historic textiles collection," Theerman said, adding that Reimagined Fashion has helped educate many patrons on how past styles continue to influence local designers. "We are grateful to have the chance to show off the talent of Lowcountry artisans and show a new generation that our collections can be a deep well of inspiration for artists looking to kindle new creative sparks." Reimagined Fashion runs through Jan. 18, 2026, at Charleston Museum. For hours and admission information, visit charlestonmuseum.org. Giant international fashion companies such as Sweden’s H&M, London’s ASOS and Spain’s Zara, which operates approximately 1,800 stores in more than 90 countries worldwide, leverage artificial intelligence to maintain leading positions in the fast fashion industry. LOCAL ADOPTION “Among the many AI services my clients seek, the top three would be automation of repetitive tasks, knowledge transfer and utilizing AI tools as a thought partner for the creative process,” Edwards said. Locally, however, AI has been adopted sparingly as a business tool. “I really don’t use AI unless it’s for captions on social media,” said Kilby Bronstein, owner of the Finicky Filly boutique on King Street. And Ali Guy, marketing manager with Rhodes Boutique in South Windermere Center, pointed out that AI is used in their business only for customer convenience. FEATURE Get ready — the next fashion trend you experience will likely not involve new styles, retro fabrics, fittings or runway showcases, but electronics. Artificial intelligence has not only begun reshaping industry traditions and timetables but can now allow you to get the perfect style and fit without ever having to leave home. “AI-powered tools now allow designers and even consumers to virtually conceptualize and visualize garments in countless styles, colors, fabrics and fits,” said Tanqueray Edwards, founder of Charlestonbased TR Edwards Consultancy, which helps businesses leverage AI for increased profitability and streamlined workflows. “It propels the design cycle forward, ensuring a much quicker journey from idea to finished product.” THEN VS. NOW Consider shopping for something unique to wear to a special event in the 1950s. Your options would include attending a fashion show in person with real models and runways, visiting a hometown store that specialized in in-house designs, contacting a top fashion designer to create a one-of-a-kind piece just for you (if you have enough money and can get their attention) or going to a local tailor to discuss fabrics and styles, get measured and fitted then have something created to your specifications. Pleasant, SC CALL OR TEXT US, TODAY! 843-654-1373 transparent treatment, authentic care “We rely a lot on digital marketing, as a lot of our audience is out of state and every item in our store is available online,” Guy said. “And while we incorporate AI into our platforms, our heart is human connection. We’re focused more on that than an AI-driven market.” THE HUMAN TOUCH She added that while Rhodes uses AI tools to help market the business, showcase store items and recruit team members, none of the management team and none of the customers have shown any desire to replace the personal connection with something artificial. “AI is also a way to cut corners, and that’s where we draw the line,” Guy said. “We are all going to be more influenced in some ways by AI, directly or indirectly. But in our world of fashion, we pride ourselves on using real models, diverse body types, clothes on real women of different sizes and ages and styles that fit a wide variety of customers — so that the moment you start your journey with us, it’s an experience that’s happy and rewarding and joyful, and gives you what the online retail giants can’t.” So even if AI eventually carves out a sizable niche across all fashion markets, as Edwards predicts, you might still want to leave home and mingle with designers and explore options. After all, personal interaction is still what the fashion business is all about. LOOKING AHEAD “AI is now accelerating the entire creative process, generating novel design concepts, digital prototypes and lessening the reliance on costly physical samples,” Edwards said. “It’s revolutionizing trend forecasting, enabling rapid analysis of millions of images from social media and runways to predict emerging trends in colors, fabrics and more. And looking ahead, AI could also play a crucial role in sustainability efforts by identifying sustainable materials, optimizing cutting patterns to reduce waste and facilitating the recycling of garments.” As technology continues to evolve, the fashion industry faces the challenge of balancing innovation with the human connections that make shopping a personal, joyful experience.

29 WWW.CHARLESTONWOMENPODCAST.COM | WWW.READCW.COM | WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM/CHARLESTONWOMEN LOUISE OF SUMMERVILLE BY SARAH ROSE Where Fashion Inspires Follow us for daily style and fashion inspiration! @louiseofsummerville 103 S MAIN ST. UNIT C SUMMERVILLE Photo Provided. Photos By Everlasting Exposures. FASHION & STYLE Since the clothing boutique Louise of Summerville opened in May 2024, coowners Jennifer Limehouse and Jennifer Crosby have been welcoming women of all generations to enjoy a shopping experience that is more than just browsing through the racks. According to Limehouse, "At Louise, we are building a sense of community by engaging our customers through conversations and laughter. We encourage them to get creative with fashion and leave with confidence." Crosby added, "We want our friends, as well as their moms and daughters, to find something they love and that never goes out of style." As Limehouse and Crosby were starting the business, they envisioned a name for the boutique that would resonate with their selection of elegant clothing as well as its posh decor, designed by Joy Lang. Limehouse said when she and Crosby discovered both of their daughters have the middle name Louise in honor of their late paternal grandmothers, it was a "God wink" moment. "Louise is a timeless name and that's what our shop stands for." When asked what's trending this fall, Limehouse said there is a shift away from seasonal colors and toward personalizing a look. She said that while she enjoys taking risks when it comes to fashion, "When we buy for Louise, we choose pieces that genuinely resonate with us — because if we don't love it, how can we expect our customers to? Our customers trust us, and that trust means everything. But more than anything, I want customers to love the experience, enjoy the conversation, and leave feeling confident and cared for." The most rewarding aspect of Louise, Crosby said, is building genuine connections with customers and being part of a community they love. "Louise has truly become a cornerstone of downtown Summerville. To bring women together, we're always adding fun and unique events to the calendar — everything from mahjong game nights and pop-up vendors to tailgating parties and custom hat bars." Find out what's coming up next by following @louiseofsummerville on Instagram. To celebrate every occasion in style this fall and beyond, visit the boutique at 103 South Main St.
