When shopping in Asheville, any of the boutique stores in the Biltmore Village area are always going to be fun to sift through. A favorite that actually just opened their second location in Charleston (off Wentworth St.) is Hazel Twenty. They offer elevated styles for women, men and children. When you walk in you will be greeted by their furriest employee, a cute little Frenchie. VI FESSENDEN, @HOANGVITON What brought you to Charleston? I came to Charleston when I was 8 with my family and have been here ever since. Growing up here, I knew this was where I wanted my own family to be. What are you drawn to in fashion? Unique pieces that really compliment my body and personality are things that catch my eye. I especially love one-of-a-kind pieces made in small batch by local artisans. Where are your favorite places to shop? I love shopping small like Shop Magari Boutique, Two Cumberland, II Brunettes and Coastal Clutches NY. Then, of course, you have your quick buys for your family like Target and Old Navy because they grow some quick! What sets you apart? I think having a unique perspective from a minority Asian American sets me apart from the influx of creators that get visibility in Charleston. Having lived such a different chaotic upbringing from my colleagues and friends brings something different to the table; there’s truly no other like me to represent what it’s like growing up Asian American in a historic Charleston community. CAROL AND KENZIE CARTER, @KC_DOUBLETAKE Where are you from, and how did the two of you get interested in fashion? We are originally from Salt Lake City and moved to Charleston about 10 years ago, after graduating from the University of Utah. When we first moved here, we worked in food and beverage and wanted a creative outlet on the side. So, we created our blog where we shared our outfits, food, crafts and everyday adventures. As our audience grew, we slowly shifted to more fashion focused content and fell in love with creating fun looks. Why is the Charleston fashion scene unique? The Charleston fashion scene is unique because it very much plays into the charm of the city itself. The fashion scene feels very coastal, charming and classic Southern. How are you “influenced?” Why do you choose what you choose? We are influenced all the time — especially being in social media. We are surrounded by so many creative and talented humans out there, and it’s so inspiring to see others share their passions and be their true authentic selves. It really influences us to do the same — share our passions and just be us. In terms of fashion, we choose what we choose if it makes us feel good when we put it on. Whatever we choose in life has to feel aligned with who we are and what we believe in. Where are your favorite places to shop? Some of our favorite places to shop locally are II Brunettes, Harvest Moon Home, Citrine Swim and Celadon Home for home goods (just to name a few). We also love mixing in more affordable options such as H&M, Old Navy and Target. We Are Charleston Women Vi Fessenden. Kenzie and Carol Carter..
