Take time to reflect. Research supports the therapeutic value of journaling and fall is the perfect time to sit down with a notebook and pen and take time to reflect. Make some space in your schedule to process your summer experiences, explore your emotions related to the transitions that fall brings and set goals for the months ahead. Becoming more aware of your feelings will help you navigate this busy season with grace and help you to move forward with intention. 2. Stay active. Exercise does wonders to boost your mood, emitting “feel-good” endorphins and releasing tension in the body. While you might need to shift your workout to the afternoon to stay comfortable in falling temperatures, getting outside and moving your body will protect your mental health as the seasons change. 3. Stick to a schedule. Because mood changes can be impacted by shifts in our circadian rhythms with the seasons, sticking to a daily routine that includes plenty of rest is important this time of year. Getting up and going to bed at the same time every day and soaking in ample sunlight when it’s available can keep your spirits lifted, even as the days get shorter. 4. Lean on your friends. Amid this busy season, carve out time to connect with your friends, the women who support and uplift you. The busier we are, and the colder it gets, the easier it is to isolate ourselves, which can further deepen feelings of sadness and depression. Stay connected. Laugh together, which reduces stress and improves self-esteem. Know that you never have to go it alone. Your best girlfriends will walk with you through any season.
